Due to the rapid development of Internet technologies and the growing use of the Internet, more and more traders, both sellers and buyers become preys to Internet scams. The large number of scams today are plentiful that even the FBI has built websites to register these Internet scams and frauds.

Click fraud is probably the most common type of Internet scams. And this is taking place with the major search engines such as Google, Yahoo! and MSN. The fraudsters join the advertising networks as publishers provided by these search engines. What they do is generate fraudulent clicks to the various ads they are advertising, so that they may earn up to dollars per click. Scripts and software are what they use, but they can also do it manually. The search engines are always catching these fraudulent clicks and dismissing the advertisers, but still they do come up each and every day.

Phishing is also another type of Internet scam that is rampant today. It is done by misleading potential victims into imitation or falsified websites and then capturing their sensitive information. For instance a scammer may send you a fake email, pretending to be from PayPal and warning you that you should change your account information. They lure you to click on the links in their email, which brings you to a bogus website but looks exactly the same as PayPal. Generally, information such as passwords and credit card numbers are what these scammers are aiming for. And these are actually very serious crimes on the Internet.

Other Internet scams are those that involve online auctions and products selling. You may see professional-looking websites selling goods and products which look genuine, but after paying for these goods you may never see any item delivered to you. One infamous website known for this scheme is marselle.com.

Then there is the well-known Internet scam - stock trading. The technique is to leverage on marketing influence to broadcast false information into the various online forums, discussion boards and communities to push their stock sales. Once the stock price reaches a certain level, the fraudster quickly sells or lets go of his/her stocks to gain a great deal of profit as the stock price plummets down when the hype is over.

Regardless of the type of business or transaction you are venturing into, be wary as there will always be Internet scams evolving. Though more users of the web are getting wiser, it is not safe to say that the scammers out there are not getting smarter too.
